Duddon Sands

25th January 2007, Near Barrow-in-Furness
Cold and cloudy, but just enough light from the half moon for a run along Duddon Sands in the dark. Quite slow - 47 minutes for 9km.

Adrian Callan

28/11/62 - 16/1/2007, Aged 44
My good friend and work colleague passed away last Tuesday after a 2½ year battle with leukaemia. Adrian was not only one of the nicest guys you would ever meet, but was also one of the top Scottish athletes during the 1980's - and one of the very few Scottish athletes to break the 4-minute mile barrier. An enormous number of people turned out to Adrian's funeral yesterday at Bishopbriggs.

Passing Penrith

16th January 2007
A day of severe weather warnings, blown over lorries, and snow showers in Scotland. I was in no rush to get up the road, so I stopped off in Penrith for half an hour. Visited the cemetery and Penrith Beacon, and passed my old primary school on Brunswick Road where I was a pupil from January 1969 to July 1970.

Fairly horrible weather. Cold, windy and raining. Muddy and slippy in places. Ran pretty much according to plan. Tucked in with a small group for the section from Cadder Bridge to Balmore Road. This gave a massive advantage in terms of wind protection, and after Balmore Road Bridge I felt reasonably fresh from there to the end, and just managed to hold off the final challenge from Paul Thompson. Allan Adams won the race in 32:31. A slow time for him given that he was running into the wind on his own. First lady was Lesley Chisholm of Springburn Harriers in 38:23. I finished 24th in 36:26.
