Bellahouston 4k Cross Country

29th January 2006

Fantastic sunny spring-like weather for the Bellahouston 4k Cross Country. The men's race saw a rare defeat for Scottish Cross Country champion Robert Rusell who finished 4th, with Simon Plummer of Woodford Green taking the 2006 title. No surprises in the ladies' race with Freya Murray of Edinburgh Southern winning comfortably, and Carnethy's Lyn Wilson finishing 2nd. I just about managed not to come last, finishing 73rd of 105 runners!

Devil's Burdens Hill Relay

28th January 2006
5 miles / 1500ft

Westerlands fielded a record 7 teams in this popular start of the season hill relay. The men's first team finished 7th and I think the ladies' first team finished 2nd. Carnethy men were first overall, and Carnethy also won the ladies' team prize. I ran Leg 1 with Damon, who totally trashed me on the run up East Lomond. We handed over in 6th place, Manny picked us to 5th, David & Jon dropped one place on Leg 3, and Fraser got pipped by Lothian Mixed just before the finish line on Leg 4. Damon and I jogged round the rest of the course after handing over. A reasonable day for it. Clear on the hill. But quite cold and rainy for the later teams finishing.

Nepal 2005

Here's a gallery of photos I took before and during the Everest Sky Race in April 2005, that I've only just got round to putting on a webpage. The race itself wasn't remotely enjoyable, but the Everest region is a fantastic place to visit, with awesome scenery and wonderful runnable trails.

Because the Everest Sky Race was such a truly awful experience, I decided to go back in 2006 to try to eradicate the memory. Photos from 2006

A nice enough day for a jog along by the canal at Bishopbriggs. Not the hilliest course but you certainly feel those two climbs over the bridges. Thanks to Fiona McKie and Benny McLaughlin for taking some of the photos.
