Snowy Dumgoyne

1st January 2010

New Year's Day outing up Dumgoyne.

I bumped into Helen Stuart and Dougie MacGregor from Bellahouston the first time I was descending, so I turned round and went back up. I then saw Kenny Richmond way off in the distance returning from Garloch Hill, so I jogged off to intercept him for a quick chat, and then headed up Garloch Hill myself, before turning back and climbing Dumgoyne for a 3rd and final time.

A dry but windy evening saw 12 Westies lining up at Blanefield Monument for the 3rd annual Dumgoyne Handicap. Expert handicapper Jenny constantly shuffled the times until finally all the runners were off. First back in the impressively fast time of 46:44 was John Donnelly. Nige and I scored a dead heat with 43:23 as the fastest time of the evening, despite setting off a minute apart. Elsie recorded a new ladies record of 54:47.

Inaugural club handicap race saw a healthy turnout of 21 runners. I had a good battle with Luke. We were level at the summit, but he flew away on the descent. I managed to keep him in sight, more or less, on the run back and clocked a slightly faster time of 43:50. Close to my estimate of 44 minutes for the route. Pat won the handicap overall, having started first and finished first.

Eight of us went for a "run" up Dumgoyne and Garloch Hill last night. The team was Trevor, Robert, Peter, John, Graham, Jane, Clare and myself. Fairly hard work in the conditions.

Dumgoyne

Just been for a quiet run up Dumgoyne (427m). Was planning to continue to Earl's Seat but first bumped into Luke Arnott and chatted for 10 minutes, and then bumped into Eddie Dealtry and chatted for a further 10 minutes, by which time I was cold and couldn't be bothered going any further so just jogged back to the distillery with Eddie who was late for his tea.
